The class with start with the basics of caricature. By using a model of comparison of the standard human skull and searching for the distinct qualities of the person you are drawing, these concepts will be simple to learn. Digital tools and techniques will be taught as well, so that students can render a face using the most modern software and tools available today. The course will culminate in a project deliverable of rendering a finalized caricature illustration of a famous personality. Students will be able to turn these newly acquired skills to an entrepenurial opportunity or utilize them in their current illustration work.

Basic drawing/cartooning skills, a Wacom or other pressure sensitive drawing tablet is necessary for working digitally, a digital art program, Photoshop, Corel Painter, Sketchbook Pro, Mango Studio, or other similar program (you can download free trials of Photoshop and Corel Painter, as well as most other art making programs). Class will be taught using Corel Painter and Photoshop. If you are not interested in working digitally, the majority of the class is focussed on drawing techniques which can be accomplished with a pencil and paper. For more in depth, detailed work, digital tools are suggested.
